A long-established garden lodge on the edge of Karatu — 32 bungalow units in eleven acres, with a large pool, a spa and its own borehole, twenty minutes from the Ngorongoro gate.
Kudu Lodge sits two kilometres off the Ngorongoro tarmac road on the edge of Karatu, in eleven acres of rolling gardens and mature trees that are home to a great many birds. Accommodation is in bungalows of three kinds: twenty Deluxe rooms (the Ruaha Rondavels), each a large room with a sitting area, a small office corner and a fireplace, sold as twins and triples; ten Suite rooms (the Serengeti Rooms), each with a king-size bed, sitting area, fireplace and office corner; and two Family Houses (the Tembo Retreats), each two interconnecting en-suite bedrooms around a large sitting lounge with a fireplace, sleeping two to five. Every room has its own veranda over the gardens, mosquito nets, an intra-lodge telephone and a hand dryer. Power runs 24/7 on a backup generator and water comes from the lodge's own borehole. Total capacity is sixty guests. A separate campsite, set well apart from the lodge, takes up to sixty tents with hot water and ablution blocks; it is not part of this record.
